Volunteers needed

There are still a few spots open for volunteers in the Recreation Ministry. We need volunteers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday to answer the phone, hand out towels and equipment and help with mailings. You can volunteer as little as once a month. Contact Amy Elliott for information.

Texas Rangers game

See the Texas Rangers take on the Boston Red Sox on Friday, Aug. 13, at the Ballpark in Arlington. Cost is $30 for a ticket in the all-you-can-eat porch. Transportation will be provided by the church. We will leave from Marvin at 4 p.m. and will return following the game. Securing tickets for the game is on a first-come first-serve basis, and there are 30 reserved. Tickets will only be reserved after payment is made. To purchase your tickets please come by the Recreation office.

Senior Sneakers

Senior Sneakers begins at 9 a.m. Aug. 23. Classes will every Monday in the gym, and the price is $5 per session. We will provide child care by reservation. Senior Sneakers is a fun and exciting workout designed for our older adults focusing on building strength, flexibility, eye-hand coordination, eye-foot coordination, and cardiovascular health and endurance, so you can perform your daily tasks and activities better. The hour-long class is an aerobics class with exercises using resistance bands, hand weights and balls. Everyone has a chair available for stretching, chair squats and rest. Seniors of all fitness levels are welcome. We can modify the exercises so everyone gets a workout and has a great time. Marvin Senior Sneakers is also a fun way to make friends and worship through exercise.

Zumba class

Zumba classes will be at 5:30 p.m. every Monday in the gym beginning Aug. 9. Price is $10 per session. Child care will be provided by request ahead of time. Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Emily Mariani will lead the class. She has more than five years of experience teaching classes including yoga, yogalates, Pilates mat, Pilates equipment, spin, high intensity circuit training, silver sneakers senior fitness and Zumba.

Yoga Fit

We offer Yoga Fit classes at 9 a.m. every Tuesday and at 9:20 a.m. on Fridays in the gym. They last about an hour. The cost is $5 per session. You can bring your own mat or we can provide one. Yoga Fit was designed to eliminate Sanskrit names of postures and avoided the ohming and chanting sometimes associated with traditional practice. If you interested in joining this Yoga class please contact Amy Elliott.

Pick-up basketball

Come join the pick-up basketball games at noon Monday-Thursday in the gym. There is always a game going on.

Volleyball

A group meets at noon on Fridays to play volleyball in the gym. This is for all ages—if you like to play, come join the fun. We may begin a beginner’s volleyball league. Contact Amy Elliott if you are interested.
